Today's walk was the first of the season, and we started off with a feeding frenzy off shore - many gulls and terns diving to catch bait fish, accompanied by 5 Brown Pelicans. Birding the Meadows - Monday, September 4th, 2017
Waterfowl consisted of Canada Geese, Mallards, and Mute Swans. Overhead, we had numerous Tree and Barn Swallows, several Chimney Swifts, and two lingering Purple Martins. Off shore we found five Brown Pelicans among the many Laughing Gulls and terns feeding in the rips. A Black Tern came in over the fresh water ponds for a short time. Lots of Tree Swallows overhead, on the beach and on the reeds. Also a few Purple Martins, and Barn Swallows were seen. Above Par Birding at Cox Hall Creek WMA - Sunday, August 27th, 2017
We had a hard time covering any ground at CHC WMA because there were so many birds to look at, including lots of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Eastern Kingbirds and American Redstarts. We had a few Purple Martins present, hawking insects over the fields, even though none bred in the martin "condo" at the back end of the property.
